Assembly Fail – Ikea

2

If you’ve ever owned a piece of IKEA furniture, you’ll know that they can be surprisingly tricky to assemble even with the instructions provided.
To illustrate this fact, the Swedish furniture brand has unveiled billboards that playfully poke fun at its self-assembly products.
Dubbed ‘Assembly Fail’, the billboards feature jumbled posters advertising its assembly service with the tagline “Our assembly service is happy to help.”

b4-XVI – Cecilia Azcarate.

A new art history inspired Tumblr entered the universe yesterday, courtesy of f Tumblr veteranCecilia Azcarate. Ikea b4-16 finds classic Ikea items in paintings made before 1650 and most of the results are surprisingly spot-on.

With art history’s iconic holy moments happening frequently in the home, it’s no wonder Azcarate found so much material to work with. Her Tumblr is a great exercise in looking past the divine action in the foreground to take in the exquisite detail in these Northern works. Our only criticism is that we wish she had identified all of the works she used as source material, in addition to linking to the Ikea furniture.

When you have little space you need to come up with clever solutions.
That is not only true for interior decoration, but for advertising space too.

But how can you turn little space into more?
Like this, for example:
3 lines.
3 colours.
3 bulbs.
This is how you turn 9 m² into 27 m².
And 1 billboard into more than just 1 billboard.

This is how it works:
If the billboard is illuminated by green lamps, only the line printed in magenta is readable.
Blue-purple light makes yellow visible.
Red light brings blue to the surface.

Ikea or Death? – Gatesman Dave

Cattura

IKEA is that friendly shop where you get cheap furniture from the inside of a giant, unending warehouse. Black metal is the kind of music that sounds like someone screaming while trapped inside a burning church. They each possess a fervent fan base. And to tell you the truth, the names of the furniture in IKEA sound a lot like the names of black metal bands. Consider this quiz an educational way to learn the difference between the two.

April Fool’s Day 2012.

The Apartment – Ikea.

From January 9th to the 14th frequenters of the Auber metro station in France’s capital, will get a glimpse into the daily routines of five of their fellow Parisians. For six days, this IKEA “apartment” will be the home of these individuals. The fully furnished space was developed by creative agency Ubi Bene to highlight how IKEA furniture is compatible with small spaces.

The project is called “The IKEA Apartment – 54 Square-Meter Ideas to Life

IKEA Kondis.

Kondis is an Ikea application similar to Nike+. It keeps track of your runs and walks but most of all it tells you how many calories you still have to burn in order to eat your favorite cake. Forsman & Bodenfors are of course behind the iPhone app that I believe was launched in Sweden only with an hilarious video.

Kondis contains 30 classical Swedish recipes, everything from small biscuits to large cakes. You select what you’d love to eat, if you prefer to walk, run or bike, and the application starts counting how much you need to burn to enjoy that cake.

Better sleeps for everyone – Ikea.

Ikea wishes “Better sleep for everyone” with a nice integrated campaign just launched in Sweden to promote its beds and mattresses collection. They got in touch with 6 music artists and asked them to interpret and make new recordings of well known lullabies. The songs will be soon released through Sony Music, and will be available to download on iTunes and Spotify. The artist also recorded 6 music videos that are going on air on TV in short cuts, but are also available online in full length. Interesting small but important detail: each bed was chosen specifically to fit each artist according to their height, weight and sleeping position.
